You need to know that not every ingredient out there will work magically and fulfill individual skin needs. In fact, certain ingredients especially if used regularly may cause harm than being good. 

Usually it takes 3-4 months for you to know if a skincare routine is working for you or not. But again you can see some signs which can help you know if the product is working for you or not.

1) You face more breakouts:-

If you already have breakout and even after regularly following a certain skincare regime you are not finding any relief then there is a good chance that the product is not working out for you. Whatever product you might be using is not able to remove the excess oil and sebum buildup on your skin effectively. And there are also chances that you might be using products that are too strong and stripping and which is causing your skin to go into oil overdrive. So be wise while choosing the product. Look for products that contain proven acne-fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid also which is oil free and non-comedogenic. 

2) New discoloration:-

Due to increased sun damage and hormones you can experience an increase in brown spots and hyperpigmentation. But again there are chances that it could be a bad reaction of some ingredients used in the product which is meant to brighten your skin. In that case you should immediately stop using that product. But if you already have brown spots and hyperpigmentation then it's mandatory for you to make sunscreen a part of your skincare regime.

3) You experience excess redness or flushing:-

Redness or flushing is actually a sign of adult rosacea. And if you are  suffering from rosacea then it's really important for you to add an anti-inflammatory into your skincare routine right after cleansing your face. Also it's important for you to know that all other products that you are using are not further aggravating the redness through irritation.

4) You're skin flakes:-

If you ever had dry patches around your nose or eyebrows that are flaky within an hour of applying moisturizer then it's for you to know that this is an indication that you need to change your skincare routine as it's reducing your skin's pH level. 

5) You're experiencing rashes:-

Definitely rashes could be caused due to various reasons but also thera is a big amount of chances that it could be a allergic reaction of certain product that you are using on daily basis. Now it's important for you to know that rashes can be caused by preservatives, fragrances or acrylates used in products. To speed up healing switch to mild and hypoallergenic products until the inflammation is stopped.
