How To Find Out Your Skin Type?
How Can You Find Out Your Skin Type At Home?
The most important step in taking care of your skin comes from understanding your specific skin type and how it adapts to certain circumstances or seasonality. Everyone's skin is unique but there are few common skin types that will help you to identify where your skin fits the most. Now there are 3 most common skin types which are oily, normal to combination and dry.
How can you know your skin type at home?
In order to practice your most effective skincare it's really important for you to know your skin type. But how can you know your skin type?
Here are two really easy ways to determine your skin type at home:-
The Bare-Faced Method:-
Firstly cleanse your face thoroughly with a mild cleanser and gently pat dry. Then leave your skin bare (don't apply any moisturizer, serum or face oil). After 60 minutes examine your cheeks, chin, nose and forehead if you can feel any shine then that means you have oily skin.
Similarly after 60 minutes evaluate whether your skin feels parched especially while smiling or making any facial expressions. If your skin feels tight then that means you have dry skin.
And if you notice the shine only around your nose and forehead and the rest of your skin feels normal then that means you have normal to combination skin.
The Blotting Sheet Method:-
This method is much faster and also a quiet excellent differentiator between oily and dry skin. Now for this method gently pat a blotting paper on the different area of your face. Then hold the sheet up to the light to determine how much oil is visible.
If the sheet picked up little to no oil then that means you have dry skin and if the blotting sheet reveals oil from the forehead and nose area then that means you have normal to combination skin. And if the blotting paper is saturated with oil then it means that you have oily skin.
Skin Types:-
NORMAL TO COMBINATION SKIN:-
Normal skin is a term which is widely used to refer to well-balanced skin. The T-zone area (forehead, nose and chin) may be bit oily, overall sebum and moisture is balanced and the skin is neither too oily nor too dry.
How To Identify Normal To Combination Skin?
Normal to Combination skin has:
1) fine pores
2) good blood circulation
3) a velvety, soft and smooth texture
4) no blemishes
5) and lastly no prone to sensitivity
DRY SKIN:-
Dry skin may feel tight throughout the day and may also experience noticeable flaking. It's because dry skin produces less sebum than normal skin and it also lacks the lipids that it needs to retain moisture and build a protective shield against external influences.
How To Identify Dry Skin?
Dry skin has:
1) mild scaling or flakiness in patches
2) a rough and blotchy appearance
3) a feeling of tightess
4) feel itchiness
5) chapping with a tendency to form rhagades (cracks)
6) it is also more sensitive to irritation, redness and the risk of infection
OILY SKIN:-
Excess oil can sometimes leave pores congested and clogged. But the happy news is that oily skin looks younger and is more supple because it has more natural moisture and is less prone to wrinkle.
How To Identify Oily Skin?
Oily skin has:
1) enlarged, clearly visible pores
2) a glossy shine
3) thicker pale skin (blood vessels may not be visible)
